Dollar General couponing
Couponing at Dollar General means stacking up to four layers of savings: the sale price in the Dollar General weekly ad, a DG digital coupon, one paper manufacturer coupon where the rules allow it, and a store-wide coupon such as $5 off $25 on the whole order.
How to coupon at Dollar General, step by step
- Start with the weekly ad. This week’s ad (Nov 8 to 14) has 294 deals, and 84 of them are priced with a DG digital coupon.
- Clip the digital coupons for those items in the Dollar General app or on dollargeneral.com. See Dollar General digital coupons.
- Add one paper coupon only where it is allowed. Most DG digital coupons are manufacturer coupons, so a paper manufacturer coupon cannot go on the same item. A digital coupon labeled “DG Store Coupon” can be paired with one manufacturer coupon.
- Check your total against $25. The $5 off $25 coupon counts your total before tax and after all other discounts. See Dollar General $5 off $25.
- Enter your phone number at the register before you pay, so your digital coupons apply.
Dollar General couponing rules
These come from Dollar General’s coupon policy, checked on Nov 7, 2026:
- “A maximum of two coupons will be allowed per item.” One must be a manufacturer coupon and the other a Dollar General coupon.
- “Limit of 5 identical coupons per household per day, if no limit specified on coupon.”
- “Dollar General does not double or multiply the value of coupons.”
- Coupon overages go to the rest of your order: “Coupon overages can only be applied to the balance and will not be given back at the end of the transaction.”
- “Transactions cannot be broken up to avoid coupon stacking restrictions.”
The full list is in Dollar General coupon policy.

A worked couponing example from this week’s ad
Here is a basket built only from this week’s digital coupon deals, best savings first, until the pre-tax subtotal reaches $25. If a $5 off $25 coupon is available in your app that week, it comes off last.
| Item | Qty | Ad price |
|---|---|---|
| Heartland Farms Outdoor Cat Food | 1 | $15.95 |
| Cascade Automatic Dishwasher Detergent ActionPac Complete, Platinum or Platinum Plus 12-58 ct. | 1 | $10.25 |
| Subtotal after digital coupons | $26.20 | |
| $5 off $25 coupon | -$5 | |
| You pay before tax | $21.20 |
The digital coupons in this basket save $3 by themselves, based on the savings printed in the ad. Prices are from the Nov 8 to 14 ad.
Dollar General couponing tips that follow the rules
- Clip coupons before you leave home. A coupon applies only if it is in your wallet when the phone number is entered.
- Read each coupon’s details for quantity rules. Dollar General’s terms note requirements “such as expiration date or a requirement to purchase multiples of a relevant item.”
- Keep paper coupons original. Photocopies, screenshots and pictures are not accepted.
- If a digital coupon and a paper coupon both target the same item, the first one applied counts and the other does not.
For the coupon types themselves, see Dollar General coupons.
